[In New Bark Town, if anyone is still around, you might find a somewhat frustrated man - tossed back into his Navy uniform for who knows what reason - prodding at his PokeGear, a Wingull perched on his shoulder as if it was the most natural place for it to be. Despite the fact that the man seems to have no idea what to do with the machine, the Wingull, on the other hand, seems to have been accepted with no problem whatsoever.]

... Aha. Is this how it works? Clever. It seems it's more than a simple telephone, Gen.

[The Wingull makes a squawk, at which point Kinzo offers the PokeGear up, allowing the Wingul to lean down and inspect the device. After a few very serious moments of contemplation, the Wingull resumes its place on Kinzo's shoulder, squawks again, then nods in agreement. Kinzo seems to accept this response, since he smirks and chuckles - tossing the PokeGear in the air and catching it, feeling more confident in it now.]

Quite an intelligent bird. I really will have to find out where I can get more like you for the family once I return to Odaware. You're already proving to be quite useful. Now then, shall we see just how useful this is?

[At this point, Kinzo flips on the [VIDEO] function of the PokeGear, greeting viewers with his devilishly handsome ~~Battlerface~~ along with that of his Wingull's curious, but patient, stare. Kinzo is silent for a few moments, looking over the PokeGear as if he's sizing it up, and after he's made a decision, he nods.]

Yes... Yes, it appears to be recording now. I'm not really familiar with this kind of technology, but here it is, exisiting in my hands, so I can't exactly refute its existence, can I? That is, assuming I've not gone mad after all.

In any case...

My name is Ushiromiya Kinzo, and I am the Head of the Ushiromiya Family. [a pause] If there is anyone out there who can give me any information regarding where I am now or, more importantly, how I can return to Odawara... [Kinzo chuckles, flashing the camera a grin]

I promise that you will be rewarded for it.

[And with that, with all the flare and dramatics that one would expect of Ushiromiya Kinzo, he snaps the PokeGear shut and off in a swift movement, ending the video feed. For those still in New Bark, however, Kinzo opens the PokeGear again a few moments later and lets out a relieved sigh.]

... Good. That wouldn't have been nearly as effective if it hadn't actually turned off.

[Gen squawks one last time in agreement, giving a nod, and Kinzo heads off to investigate the town while he awaits a response.]

[ At first there's just a long and hard look from Maria, frowning slightly as if she's trying to recognize the guy. What is he doing with Battler's face.. The name seems vaguely familiar - she was just a little kid back when Kinzo actually was around rather than being dead, after all - and 'head of the Ushiromiya family'..

She still doesn't quite get it, but she still answers the feed. ]

... Uu-.. Same last name as Maria?

[Kinzo isn't quite sure how to respond to this, especially since he has... no idea who this girl is talking about. And wasn't it he that started giving children of the family Western names? So who could this child be referring to? The only Ushiromiya children with Western names right now are Krauss, Eva, Rudolf, and Rosa.

Well, it's not impossible to say the elders might have had a child here or there, even if they had all but left the dying family to him, but someone this young? Older than his children admittedly, but... ... Well, time to ask.]

... You mean Ushiromiya, little girl? You know someone who shares my name?

Of course Maria means Ushiromiya.. Uu-, Maria is Maria, Maria Ushiromiya..

[ She might look just a little bit pouty at that. ]

Who are you..? Look a bit like Battler, uu-.

[Kinzo takes a few moments to process this - then, aha!, it hits him that she is the Maria of whom she speaks. ... Which just makes things even more confusing. Ever the hard worker, Kinzo shall work at solving this mystery right away.]

Can you tell me who your parents are, Maria? [He now begins listing off some of the younger elders and higher ups in the family - at least, those still capable of childbirth.]

Battler? I'm afraid I don't know anyone by that name.

[ She listens to him slightly patiently, but.. her facial expression is still stuck in that slight pout since she has no clue what exactly is going on. ]

Uu-, none of those.. Maria's Mama is Rosa, Rosa Ushiromiya, uu-uu-!

[ Don't even start on the father or we'll get that story from ep7 again.. ]

[At hearing the name of his daughter, who has a name that is hers and hers alone, Kinzo's face - naturally! - twists into one of absolute shock and disbelief.]

R... Rosa you say!?

I think... [Kinzo shakes his head - his Wingull, concerned, pats his master with a wing, but Kinzo waves it off.]

No, I know you're mistaken, little girl. Rosa Ushiromiya isn't even old enough to battle you on an even playing field, let alone have a child.

Uu-...

[ At that, she slightly puffs up her cheeks, looking a bit more.. angry, perhaps? Annoyed? ]

Why is strange mister saying bad things about Mama like that? Mama is the greatest and at an age a Mama should be! Maria didn't even know strange mister knew Mama!

Strange mister?

[Kinzo raises an eyebrow. Clearly, this child thinks someone named Rosa is her mother, but it most certainly isn't his Rosa - and that Rosa should be the only Rosa.]

I happen to be the real Rosa Ushiromiya's father. She happens to be a little girl right now. I can't say I know who your mother is, but she certainly isn't related to myself or the Ushiromiya family.

[In the back of Kinzo's mind, he thinks to himself: "Really, that's luckier for her anyway." Damn Ushiromiyas...]

Mama's father..? Then that's.. Maria's grandfather? Uu-?

[ This is only getting more and more confusing to her as well, to be honest. She's frowning again, trying to think of what exactly her grandfather's name is supposed to be again.. This is hard, so there's actually a few moments of silence. ]

But Maria's grandfather is much older.. And doesn't look like Battler at all.

[That-- That jump in logic makes Kinzo stumble in his thoughts. While he is trying to explain to the girl how her mother is some sort of imposter who, for some reason or another, is using his daughter's name... She jumps to such a conclusion...!? It shows, and he's speechless for a moment. This sort of thing, certainly, could happen in some of the novels he's read, but--]

Not to mention it would be impossible for me to be anyone's grandfather, let alone yours.

[Whether he's saying that for his own benefit or hers isn't probably important. Maria has earned the image of Gen the Wingull wiping Kinzo's brow with its wing, however, like the good bird-butler he is.]

... Thank you, Gen, but I'm fine.

[ To her credit, she's a little kid. Logic jumps like this are nothing. And maybe his name was sort of similair with the one she remembered.. ]

Uu-.. Strange mister has white hair though. [ ~*LOGIC*~ ]

[... Kinzo sighs. This much he can explain without any issue.]

My hair has always been this color. I'm still fairly young.

And here I thought the presence of THAT child--

[ Lion. ]

--was strange enough, but this? I'm legitimately surprised. Even I have to give the Gamemasters here a bit of respect for this.

[Though he has no idea who you are, and certainly, this girl is clearly just a child... Kinzo can't help but find himself a bit wary.]

Forgive me, but I have no idea what you're talking about. Care to explain for the uninformed?

Nooope.

[... Somehow, he's not surprised. Brat.]

At least explain as to how you know of me. You do know of me, am I right? I don't usually spend time with the likes of children like yourself.

Then.. you don't know Maria at all? Not even a little bit? But you know Mama.. Uu-.. Don't get it at all..

I think that's what I should be saying here... Maria?

[he shakes his head] I've never heard of any Maria Ushirmoiya before, and the only Rosa is younger than you are right now. That's all I can say on the matter.

...Kinzo? That is an odd coincidence. I know a person named Kinzo too.

[Kinzo's voice is simply... struck numb at the sight of this woman. Her looks - even her voice! - it's all Beatrice. The only odd thing about this picture is the dress, but even that seems to suit her perfectly. He just... gapes for a moment.]

[And then, initially, Kinzo erupts in a smile. If Beatrice is here, if his love, his life is here, then the Ushiromiya family and all else he had just left behind be damned - he would have no problems living the rest of his life out here with her. This was perhaps the greatest blessing in disguise he had ever come across, even greating than the gold - who needed that anymore, if he could have escaped with Beatrice? That was all it was for, wasn't it? Yes... Beatrice...!]

Bea... Beatrice... Bice--!

[... wait. something is... wrong. surely, Beatrice, his Bice, should be able to recognize him. She knows a person named Kinzo too? He is the person she knows named Kinzo! Who... What...]

... Don't you recognize me, Beatrice...!?

You look familiar... you are not only named the same, but you do look like Kinzo in a way.

Are you his younger brother? I've been meeting Kinzo's family, the Ushiromiyas, here in Johto, so perhaps you're his family too!
