second ingot ♚ video/action

[Today, Kinzo has decided to fend for himself - his Wingull, as always, perched on his shoulder. He's arrived in Cherrygrove, bought himself an Old Rod, and gone fishing - just as an manly man like himself would think to do. After all, that bento can only hold a person for so long. The problem is, he found, after obtaining the fish of his desires...]

There's something wrong with the fish here. [Kinzo's face is one of annoyance with just a bit of shock mixed in. Seriously, Johto? You're denying him a proper meal? Come on now.] You can't eat them. In fact, you can't even break through their scales. No matter what I try, it just...

[Kinzo turns the camera over to a Magikarp, flopping around on the ground next to him. He stares at it, as if wondering if all of this is truly real for the first time since his arrival. Timeline dissaray and magic and monsters are one thing, but he can't eat fish? That's just unreal. The Magikarp, meanwhile, continues to flop. Karp Karp Karp. Magikarp.]

Tell me. Should I just release this "Magikarp" back into the wild or keep it? Its level is a few higher than Gen's is right now, but Gen was still able to beat it down well enough for me to capture it with relative ease.

[The Magikarp flops around on the ground in front of him, as if hurt that her new master would even suggest releasing her. Alas, she cannot properly portray how offended she is. Look at that Magikarp flop.]

... It doesn't even appear to need water to survive. [Kinzo shakes his head, sighing.] What a strange, strange fish.

How does one even eat in this land? If all of the animals are like this, I can't imagine how you all have managed to survive for so long.

[Video] ... how does that--

[identity profile] pastsanity.livejournal.com 2011-05-19 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
... It obviously has to come from somewhere, if not from the wildlife.

Berries are hardly filling. What's wrong with them?

[Video] I dunno, let's forget about it.

[personal profile] isthedeadcat 2011-05-19 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, that's what I thought, but still nobody has given me a satisfactory answer.

I heard that the berries weren't good for humans, only for pokémon. Someone told me they could cause hallucinations too. You haven't had any right...?

[Video] you got it, grandthing

[identity profile] pastsanity.livejournal.com 2011-05-19 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Perhaps there's a specific species being used for it?

Not yet, and after hearing that, I don't plan to start. [he shakes his head] What have you been eating then?
isthedeadcat: (02)

[personal profile] isthedeadcat 2011-05-19 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
You can get food in restaurants and you can buy food for your trip in the stores in the city.

As for getting money if you already spent what you had, you can either fight other trainers to get it, or take on jobs since they pay weekly.

[identity profile] pastsanity.livejournal.com 2011-05-19 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
... I see.

I've only purchased the fishing rod. I had assumed I could obtain rations that way. [he shakes his head] What would you suggest?
isthedeadcat: (83)

[personal profile] isthedeadcat 2011-05-19 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
The best would be to buy food for your trip, and then get a part time job in Violet.

That would be best so you won't have to wait in Cherrygrove.

[identity profile] pastsanity.livejournal.com 2011-05-19 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Sounds simple enough. I'll have to do that.

How are things on your end? Have you been able to leave yet?
isthedeadcat: (25)

[personal profile] isthedeadcat 2011-05-19 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm doing well enough.

There is a week of travel between Violet and Cherrygrove, would you like me to meet you halfway?

[identity profile] pastsanity.livejournal.com 2011-05-19 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Excellent.

[After a moment of thought, Kinzo nods.] The sooner the better. I could gather some supplies here and leave before sunset.

[personal profile] isthedeadcat 2011-05-19 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Why don't you take a night of rest in the Cherrygrove inn? It's a cozy place, and it's quite cheap.

I'll take some supplies of my own so just worry about the two of you.

[identity profile] pastsanity.livejournal.com 2011-05-20 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
That's fine. The outdoors suit me fine for the moment.

... Thank you.

[personal profile] isthedeadcat 2011-05-20 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
I look forward to meeting you.

Are you planning on keeping that Magikarp?

[identity profile] pastsanity.livejournal.com 2011-05-20 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
Likewise. There's much we have to discuss.

[now this makes him pause] ... For now.
isthedeadcat: (11)

[personal profile] isthedeadcat 2011-05-20 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
It would be a good idea.

Magikarp are a bit like a good investment. You may lose a bit at the beginning, but in the end you will get great earnings.

[identity profile] pastsanity.livejournal.com 2011-05-20 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
... Really? [he looks down at her again] Perhaps she suits me more than I first thought.
isthedeadcat: (33)

[personal profile] isthedeadcat 2011-05-20 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
I have a Feebas, a pokémon that is much like a Magikarp in that sense.

[identity profile] pastsanity.livejournal.com 2011-05-20 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Hoh. Are there differences between them?
isthedeadcat: (34)

[personal profile] isthedeadcat 2011-05-20 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course they evolve into different pokémon... Feebas can also learn some new attacks using Technical Machines, while Magikarp can't.

Other than that they are quite alike.

[identity profile] pastsanity.livejournal.com 2011-05-21 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
Hmmm... In that case, however, it seems as though Feebas has the advantage over Magikarp, provided you have Technical Machines. Is that correct?
isthedeadcat: (55)

[personal profile] isthedeadcat 2011-05-21 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, but you still need much patience to train one, since they will still be naturally weaker than other pokémon.

[identity profile] pastsanity.livejournal.com 2011-05-21 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
Indeed. I observed that when Gen and I fought her to begin with. How shall I make it stronger, in that case?
isthedeadcat: (11)

[personal profile] isthedeadcat 2011-05-21 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
Magikarp don't learn real damaging attacks until they are a high enough level... However one can also learn from surviving a fight.

You can send out your Magikarp first, and then let Gen handle the rest of the fight. That should help her to learn a bit each time.

[identity profile] pastsanity.livejournal.com 2011-05-21 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
A good analogy.

Interesting... I'll have to do that. [he nods] Is this what you're doing for your Feebas as well?
isthedeadcat: (83)

[personal profile] isthedeadcat 2011-05-21 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
That was what I did at the beginning of her training, I then moved on to letting her have her own fights from time to time.

Pokemon grow faster when they fight on their own, but they don't get much learning from being defeated, so it's important to have a balance... And to take many potions just in case.

[identity profile] pastsanity.livejournal.com 2011-05-21 08:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Indeed. True of any creature, not just these.

... Potions... Those things they were selling in the store?
