[In New Bark Town, if anyone is still around, you might find a somewhat frustrated man - tossed back into his Navy uniform for who knows what reason - prodding at his PokeGear, a Wingull perched on his shoulder as if it was the most natural place for it to be. Despite the fact that the man seems to have no idea what to do with the machine, the Wingull, on the other hand, seems to have been accepted with no problem whatsoever.]

... Aha. Is this how it works? Clever. It seems it's more than a simple telephone, Gen.

[The Wingull makes a squawk, at which point Kinzo offers the PokeGear up, allowing the Wingul to lean down and inspect the device. After a few very serious moments of contemplation, the Wingull resumes its place on Kinzo's shoulder, squawks again, then nods in agreement. Kinzo seems to accept this response, since he smirks and chuckles - tossing the PokeGear in the air and catching it, feeling more confident in it now.]

Quite an intelligent bird. I really will have to find out where I can get more like you for the family once I return to Odaware. You're already proving to be quite useful. Now then, shall we see just how useful this is?

[At this point, Kinzo flips on the [VIDEO] function of the PokeGear, greeting viewers with his devilishly handsome ~~Battlerface~~ along with that of his Wingull's curious, but patient, stare. Kinzo is silent for a few moments, looking over the PokeGear as if he's sizing it up, and after he's made a decision, he nods.]

Yes... Yes, it appears to be recording now. I'm not really familiar with this kind of technology, but here it is, exisiting in my hands, so I can't exactly refute its existence, can I? That is, assuming I've not gone mad after all.

In any case...

My name is Ushiromiya Kinzo, and I am the Head of the Ushiromiya Family. [a pause] If there is anyone out there who can give me any information regarding where I am now or, more importantly, how I can return to Odawara... [Kinzo chuckles, flashing the camera a grin]

I promise that you will be rewarded for it.

[And with that, with all the flare and dramatics that one would expect of Ushiromiya Kinzo, he snaps the PokeGear shut and off in a swift movement, ending the video feed. For those still in New Bark, however, Kinzo opens the PokeGear again a few moments later and lets out a relieved sigh.]

... Good. That wouldn't have been nearly as effective if it hadn't actually turned off.

[Gen squawks one last time in agreement, giving a nod, and Kinzo heads off to investigate the town while he awaits a response.]

Has such a thing been proven? That sounds rather convenient if you ask me.

[Kinzo pauses again] Past aside... Couldn't one simply be lying about the future? If they knew enough about the present, in such a situation, they could twist their words however they wanted to. If we really are blocked from all things "real", without a way to prove such claims false, we would have to accept their obvious lies as true, wouldn't we?

I haven't gone back myself, but that is what others have said about their own experiences. In a place like this those words are the only thing some can hang on to.

[Lion pauses too at that last part.] No, I don't completely agree with that. If someone came to me and told me about what the future holds for me, I would still choose to make my own future regardless of their words.
I have come to believe that there are as many possible futures as one can imagine.

How honest of you. [Kinzo nods, leaving it at that.]

Of course. That doesn't mean their words will hold an ounce of truth, and even if they had, I would simply use what they tell me to change my plans accordingly.

... You are rather young to be saying such a thing. [a beat] What is your name?

Of course, but if there are endless possible futures, then even the most absurd lies may happen under the right circumstances.

My name is Lion. In one of those possible futures I'm one of your grandchildren, but of course, it's up to you to believe it or not.

When you word things like that, there's not much I can say, is there?

[... Of course, then there's that. ... But he's been playing along thus far, before he starts denying, as he has with Jessica and Maria, and Lion's been polite and more than helpful thus far... Kinzo will continue for just a bit farther, having no idea what sort of dangerous waters he was treading across.]

Lion... A name I myself might have picked out. Tell me, Lion. Which of my children became your parent?

The full story is not something I have the right to tell... And I dare to say that it's also something you would rather not know at this time. [Have a slight smile at that last part.]

I lived my whole life as Krauss' child... But there is a much longer story behind everything.

Perhaps... Tell me this much. What genre is this story? You could tell me that much, couldn't you?

... So you can't say whose child you are. Those children... [This means that the subject of his birth is an issue. ... This doesn't body well. Just what messes have his children gotten themselves into...?] Just what kind of adults do they become, I wonder?

It's definitely in the mystery genre.

But before talking more, may I ask you a question? I don't want to risk talking too much, or end up telling too little.

Definitely? [Lion may or may not appreciate it, but given conversations up until now, such a confirmation just makes Kinzo erupt into something of a wicked grin - one absolutely reminiscent of Battler. Or should it be the opposite?]

[Kinzo nods.] Go right ahead.

[Oh young grandpa. You are something else. Completely something else.] And like the mystery genre, it's very complex and it may be deceiving.

Have you met Beatrice already?

I am aware, Lion. I hope it doesn't offend you to hear it, but I'm taking nothing I've heard here as truth just yet. Not even what you're telling me now.

[And in a move that might... surprise Lion, Kinzo smiles at the question. It isn't exactly a happy smile, it's a torn smile. Torn between fondness and sadness. Fondness for this odd, new Beatrice that has air of familiarity he can't place, and sadness it seems his Beatrice isn't here.] I have. She seems like a sweet child.

I know that, and I wouldn't expect any less from you.

Oh you have already talked to Beatrice here? She is as sweet as she seems. But I meant the Beatrice in your own world...

... Very good.

[A flat out bitter smile here.] So you know of her...? I suppose I failed in keeping her a secret after all.

Actually you didn't fail... As far as I know the only people who knew exactly who she was were those you entrusted with that secret yourself.

I only found the truth about her not too long ago, and it came from you... And in finding the truth about her, I ended up finding the truth about my own birth.

[Kinzo's face flashes through a series of emotions here. Shock, confusion, and... understanding, somehow, among them.

... And he reaches his own conclusion which, despite all of this, makes him smile.

So... He and Bice have a child, at which point this child must have found love of her own at some point and had their own child. Kinzo, wanting this Lion to be happy and be able to use the wealth and power of the Ushiromiya family, obviously must have put them into the main family so such could be reality.

No wonder Lion had that uncanny look... Yes, it makes sense now.]

... Say no more. I understand everything now.

[Given how calm he is... sadly, the truth is something Kinzo was far from. But perhaps that was for the best.]

[It's easy to notice Kinzo doesn't understand "everything", but judging by his expression, his version is probably a much sweeter thing that the painful reality. For the time being, it's perhaps better to let this be like this.

And maybe if things went on fine... Maybe there was a way to stop Beatrice's suffering before it even started.]

I won't.

[There is a pause here...] How should I call you...? There is something strange about calling you Grandfather when you are this young, and I wouldn't like to make you uncomfortable.

... Whatever feels natural for you as I am.

[He pauses, realizing... He's been buying into-- No, he believes this. At the very least, even if he doubts Maria and Jessica right now, he can see his Beatrice in this youth. It's something that he saw in the Beatrice who was not his Beatrice as well, and it made him inclined to trust, despite better judgement... Though would it be better judgement not to believe? Even that, he could not say.

Awkwardly... Kinzo continues. He does love his children... out of obligation, perhaps, but the love there is not the proper, true love - they were almost as forced onto him as the wife he could never love was. At least, right now, when he was so fresh from being "born".]

I... am happy to meet you, Lion.

I'm glad of having met you here too... [A short pause here.] I'm in Violet city, that's about a week and a half from New Bark Town, where you should be.

I was planning on leaving soon, but if you wish to meet, I wouldn't mind waiting for a little longer.

A week and a half? By car or bus? I haven't seen any kind of transportation at all, and I've looked all over this town.

I wouldn't want to hold you up, Lion. [... He would like to, however, but he will keep that silent.]

By foot. Most of the traveling here is done walking or riding a pokémon.

[B-but Lion kinda likes talking to this quite saner version of grandfather xD] I wouldn't mind waiting or meeting you halfway in Cherrygrove. I'm in no hurry to move on, I just didn't have much more to do in Violet.

[At that, Kinzo looks to Gen, who... looks at Lion. The thought here is pretty obvious: "... There is no riding happening here, no way no how."]

Are you sure it wouldn't be too much trouble? I don't want to cause any problems for you simply by "existing" here.

It won't be trouble at all. I wouldn't mind waiting for anyone and much less for a member of my family.

I wouldn't mind sending you some supplies for the trip if you would accept them, either. Fortunately winter is over so there will be no need to wade trough snow.

Hoh. How admirable of you.

[he shakes his head "no" to that offer.] This is more than enough. How for exactly is Cherrygrove from New Bark? I'll move quickly to not keep you waiting.

It's the least I can do. Everyone has been very kind to me here, and I want to do the same for others.

It took me three and a half days from New Bark to Cherrygrove, but it was snowing and it slowed me down a little. Then from Cherrygrove its about seven days to Violet.

But please don't push yourself too much, keep your health in mind.

This place sounds like it's been good to you. [a nod] I'll keep that in mind.

My health? [at this, Kinzo laughs] Lion, surely you must know. Just a few days ago I was a soldier. I can handle a little stroll from town to town.
